Birmingham Vs Manchester - The Great Grime War

All dubs, in order.

Birmingham Vs Manchester - The Great Grime War

Clashing and war, two integral parts of Grime music since its inception.

Currently, Birmingham and Manchester are at it. Over on X, Manchester producer Owlybeats has been keeping a detailed, updated thread of everything that’s going on. You can read that in full here.

It kicked off when Birmingham’s Trappy sent for Manchester’s RJ on the MCR x BRUM set [Clash starts at 27:30].

The healthy back and forth continues for a good 15 minutes, supported by a set either side. Iron sharpens iron.

RJ wasn’t at the set and replied on Twitter and after some talk it went quiet for a while.

Then off the top rope, from out of nowhere, P1Caps steps up to the plate and asks ‘Why Not?’, sending for Stretch DCM, Trappy and Drizz GB.

War is war.

In the proceeding week, we’d see a slew of dubs from both sides.

Hours later, Trappy replied with Checkmate, doubling down on what he started.

Shortly after, P1 was rallying the troops and Manchester’s Niftz made his way into the mix calling out a load of the Birmingham MCs.

Stretch DCM came back to P1 with ‘This Is Why’.

Essmac replied to Trappy after the set with ‘Send For The Rookie’.

A day later, RGG Tech came through with ‘Manny Off The Map’.

A new MC made their way into the war, Manchester’s K.I.M.E came with the skippy ‘Self Sabotage’ replying to Trappy and some other Brum MCs.

Drizz GB replied to Essmac, P1 and Niftz with ‘Because’.

2 in 2 weeks saw P1 follow up with ‘Grime Rejects’ sending for Trappy, Stretch DCM, Mayday and RGG Tech.

Which then saw RGG Tech firing a second reply.

Niftz then came with a 2-in-1-night and sent ‘Any Imposter’ swiftly followed by ‘Okay soundboy’.

At the time of writing, there’s talk of part 2 taking place at a live event and this is currently where things remain.

I’ll come back and update this if anything else unfolds.

Manchester’s Walshy put together a playlist of all the dubs in chronological order, you can listen to that here.

And if you want a play-by-play, check out the thread from Owlybeats here.
