Grime 8 Bar Rallies: A Lost Art

Grime’s DIY nature has produced countless tracks with numerous artists giving you their best 15 second, 8 bar verses and going back to back for 3 mins with other artists.

I think American’s call it a ‘Posse Cut’ or something like that, idk but I know that Grime artists RALLLLLLLY

The classic example is Lethal Bizzle’s club-shattering POW (2004) which was so good POW (2011) became a thing.

It’s hard to beat it.

Everyone aiming to outdo everybody else on the tune.

Some with the lyrics, some with the style.

Most people remember the first time they heard Wiley’s verse on Pow 2011.

In Birmingham, we had the Invasion/Stayfresh era and this produced countless freestyles in this nature but only a few songs, Scorpz, Sox & Lil Choppa for a good example.

A lot of them happened just from huge crews and big studio sessions and with a lack of that as of recent, so to are a lack of tunes in this format.

As of late, sets are started to end with 8 bar rallies between the MCs which keeps them all on their toes but still, few tunes are made in this style.

BUT A NEW ONE HAS ARISEN.

Birmingham’s bubbling with a bunch of new Grime talent and 9 of them got together to remix Mayday’s 04 JBL for a new Brum Remix of the same tune.

Mayday drafted in DH, Drizz GB, Trappy, Rgg Tech, Varntae, RDon Ranger, CreezOn & Stretch DCM for this remix with everyone in contention for the best verse.
