Proximity
Proximity
Live in proximity to what makes you happiest.
It’s only in the last year I’ve learnt this so let me scare you with the maths.
Most things you need to do, meet friends, work, workout, you have to leave the house for.
It’s great, you look forward to it, the things that remind you to enjoy life and live in the present.
But have you ever thought about how much time you spend commuting to those places to do these activities?
The numbers are insane.
Stuck in traffic, waiting to go from A to B, a podcast, memes and some music to help you pass the time.
For the most part, its just empty time.
But without making the journey you’re not gonna get to the destination.
Only recently, as obvious as it seems, for me, I found a way to solve it.
Proximity.
Be in closer proximity to what makes you happy.
How?
Move.
Move gym, change to a closer one.
Maybe change the mode of transport which turns a 30 minute journey into a 15 minute one.
Your family live in a different city or country and you’re at your happiest when you’re around them?
Move.
Seems simple right?
Because it is.
Yet as humans, we don’t like change. We’re creatures of habit. We like having routine and predictability.
To upend that and start fresh is a risk 99% of people won’t take.
And so they remain spending empty time, for longer journeys to get to their happiness.
Instead of taking a guarantee of moving in closer proximity to the source of their happiness, they’ll remain the same for fear of not wanting to start again.
New corner shop, new neighbours, new surroundings.
Whole new world.
Maybe you’ve been thinking about it.
Maybe your happiness is literally a 10 minute move away.
Move.
Today.
Not tomorrow, not next week. Don’t wait till January.
Make your move.
Increase the proximity of the things which make you happiest.
